M Fulcro was born in 1995 and studied fine arts in Rome and Paris. He founded the collective Fulcro together with Leo Fulcro in the Italian capital in 2016.
The term “Fulcro” from the Latin fulcrum means the point against which a lever is placed to get a purchase, or on which it turns or is supported. Figuratively, it refers to something central or essential—the core point around which everything is organized.
During his academic studies, M Fulcro engaged with idealized images, myths, and religious symbols from the past. Antiquity became an inexhaustible source of fascination and research, but also a limit to be overcome.
Deeply shaped by contemporary challenges—such as social inequality, the ecological crisis, and the rise of the far right—his work stems from a desire to free art history from museums and return it to the street, to everyday life, and to present-day concerns. The serenity, tragedy, and beauty of the ancient world intertwine with the present, creating new narratives.
